The University of Potsdam Celebrates Hermann von Helmholtz

Hermann Helmholtz (at first without the "von"), a medical doctor by training, developed into one of the most outstanding physicists of the 19th century and, along with Alexander von Humboldt, is considered one of the last universal geniuses. His research and teaching activities took the Potsdam-born Hermann von Helmholtz to Königsberg, Bonn, Heidelberg and Berlin - but his turn to physics and first inventions were made in a small laboratory in Potsdam. The University of Potsdam would like to pay tribute to the last universal genius of the 19th century on the occasion of his 200th birthday in 2021 and show how his legacy is carried on today.
