Pillar 2: Organization Theory

These two courses discuss selected perspectives and approaches in organizational theory. The first part of the course (winter term) takes a tour horizon of the classic approaches in organization theory and their development and the second part (summer term) focuses more specifically on more recent developments and key debates in organization theory.

In both parts, the course aims to discuss the key assumptions and terms of each strand of literature and to discuss potentials for and typical questions to be addressed by empirical research. Moreover, both parts dedicate particular attention to making participants think about their individual research topics from various theoretical angles. The overall goal of the course is to familiarize participants with theoretical perspectives and approaches in organization theory and to provide insight in how those perspectives could be used in own research.
