Research Program

Our team’s research emphasis addresses the link between motivation and behavior. Many of our of studies are led by questions like „Why do people behave that way?“

Within the framework of dual process theory we are investigating feelings and thoughts with reaction-time based and psychophysiological methodologies. These are able to capture the instantaneous processes that are at work during psychological and behavioral adaptation. We are interested in whether and how these processes help us to explain behavior change, from physical inactivity to exercising. Our studies investigate exercisers’ and non-exercisers' automatic affective responses to (e.g. the thought of) exercise and the interaction of these responses with cognitive beliefs and functions.
