A great range of funding opportunities can be found under the names Horizon 2020 and the 7th Framework Program for Research.

Since 1998, the University of Potsdam has been participating in research projects that are financed via the European Commission's various framework programs for research.

In the 7th framework program for research a total of 44 projects have been launched and implemented with the participation of the University of Potsdam; these include two coordinated Marie Curie ITNs and five ERC Grants. The University has proved to be particularly successful in securing Marie Curie Fellowships and in the life sciences area, but it has also proven itself as a partner in joint projects from the areas of information and communication technologies, environment, nanotechnology and bio-based ecology.

In the European Commission's new framework program for research and innovation - HORIZON 2020, the University has been able to link to these successes: MSC-ITN coordinated, inter alia, projects, ERC Grants and various projects in the area of societal challenges and expanding participation.

The research projects funded by the EU are an integral component of the research profile of the University of Potsdam and make an essential contribution to the University's international visibility and networking. The excellence and quality of research and the international competitiveness of the University of Potsdam are continuously being expanded.
