Why am I involved as a PoGS Postdoc representative?

I studied evolutionary biology at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena and subsequently did my PhD in Jena and at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. After a first PostDoc position at the University Hospital Jena, I am a researcher at the UP Institute for Biochemistry and Biology since January 2019. My research focuses on the genomic basis of mammal evolution and variation of the vertebral spine. Although quite new at the UP, I already experienced the importance of services and support by graduate academies at my former research institutions. In addition, I already gathered a lot of experience in as a member of PhD, faculty and institute board.

Here at the UP, I want to use this experience to represent the Postdocs at the PoGS. To me, it is important that young researchers in this exciting but often uncertain stage between finishing PhD and appointment as a professor receive comprehensive support regarding specific training, career planning, networking or financial issues. For this reason, I want to foster trainee programs specifically dedicated to Postdocs are extended and their visibility is increased.

Why am I involved as a PoGS Postdoc representative?

I did my PhD in history at the institute of religious science in Leipzig.

Since 2014 I work as research assistant at the department of Jewish Studies and Religious Studies.

The reason I apply for this position as Postdoc representative is my wish to further connect the fields of science communication and teaching. I also believe the branch of E-Learning needs further assistance to become fully available to a broader audience. When I participated myself in the PoGS programmes Senior Teaching Professionals and the ACADEMIA module to prepare for leadership I particularly benefited from the interdisciplinary nature of most programmes.

I would make it my personal obligation to reach more young researchers and to make them acquainted with the PoGS.
