Why do I get engaged as a PoGS PhD candidate representative?

I have been asked to take on this honorable position. It would be untrue to say that my vanity remained unaffected and so I decided to represent PhD candidates. Since I have been at the University of Potsdam (2015), I have participated in several PoGS events and felt gifted each time. Since March this year (2021) I am part of the PhD coaching team, which is proving to be a great asset. In my research, I am concerned with how schools deal with newly immigrated students and I am shocked to see how the political landscape is changing, not only in Brandenburg.

I experience the doctorate as a rather lonely topic, since I do research unbound (in a research context). I am happy to be there for PhD candidates who have questions that turn out to be difficult to answer. "Unpuppeting" is a nice word for this context, as the PhD process is a phase I liken to that of the butterfly.

I am a Max and PhD candidate at the Human Rights Centre of the Faculty of Law. The topic of my dissertation is: "Game-changer Internet: How the Internet changes international law". With the topic of my legal dissertation, I would like to make the progressive restriction of digital space - in short, fake news laws and freedom of the press - the subject of my research. In order to find new legal solutions for international law to deal with freedom of expression on the Internet.

Why do I get engaged as a PoGS PhD candidate representative?

As soon as I began my doctorate, my professor recommended that I apply to PoGS. Since then (2017) I have always felt very comfortable as a member. Now I would like to give something of this good feeling back to PoGS and the other PhD canidates. This I want to do with the task as PoGS PhD candidate spokesperson.

Through my many study and research stays abroad and seminars and workshops that I have led and directed, I think that I can be a good support for PoGS and the other PhD candidates in their studies. I would be very happy to get to know all of you personally as PoGS PhD canidate spokesperson.

With best regards and all the best and health during this difficult time (Corona crisis)
Your Max
