"What comes after my studies? What prospects and opportunities do I have? How can I gain practical insights during my studies? How can I assert myself in the job market?"

These questions are of particular concern to students of the Faculty of Arts who are not studying to become a teacher. The possibilities are varied and the professional fields are often unspecific. This is exactly where the "Career Orientation for Humanities Scholars" project would like to tie in, raise awareness of the topic, show perspectives and create opportunities for practical insights.

Until March 2021, the "career orientation for humanities scholars" was a sub-project of the university college funded by the European Social Fund, and a number of measures and events have already been carried within this project.

These included, among other things

  • determination of the job-related needs of the students through discussions with the student council and student representatives
  • evaluation of the 2013 graduate survey for the Faculty of Arts [ www.uni-potsdam.de/fileadmin/projects/philfak/Dokumente/QSK/absolventenbefragung_2013_philfak.pdf ]
  • existing offers for career orientation and preparation from the Career Service will be further developed and made visible, especially for humanities scholars
  • the permanent research and listing of potential employers and internship providers who are interested in students and graduates of the humanities
  • conception and planning of new supplementary formats, e.g. to convey professional perspectives and to deal with your own professional future for students of the Faculty of Arts
  • cooperation with institutes, student councils and projects of the Faculty of Arts
  • provide a contact person for students and subject representatives on the topics of career orientation, internships and the job market

The project is now an integral part of the Faculty of Arts and is constantly being improved and expanded. In the coming semesters, there will be regular events that are intended to provide insights into a variety of careers and work fields that are of interest to humanities scholars. Furthermore, the project coordinator is the contact person for co-operations with institutes or individual departments as well as student councils, in order to raise awareness of the topic within the framework of tutorials, workshops or information events, and to provide assistance with individual career orientation.
