Since March 2012 Kristine Kern holds the Chair for "Urban Infrastructure and Governance of Global Change", which the IRS has created together with the University of Potsdam. After her studies she worked at the Free University Berlin and the WZB, as DAAD visiting professor at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and as visiting professor at Södertörn University in Stockholm. Between 2008 and 2012 she was Universitair Docent at the Environmental Policy Group at Wageningen University (The Netherlands). Her current research interests are in the areas of local and regional climate and energy policy, sustainable development of cities and regions, transnational networks of cities, European regional seas (Baltic Sea in particular) and the EU macro-regional strategies.
