Studying at the University of Potsdam

Learning Agreement - Search of courses

Most of the courses at the University of Potsdam are taken up by the PULS online system. Similar to online banking, courses are booked through a TAN process. During the welcome events directly after your arrival you will get a tutorial on how to use PULS. However, you will also receive assistance directly in PULS for Searching for courses, registering for courses and the course catalog.

For questions about the courses and modules, you can always contact your exchange coordinator in your department.

If you make changes to your Learning Agreement, you should record this in the Learning Agreement During Mobility and obtain the confirmation from your home university.

Assembling your academic achievements – Transcript of Records

Please complete the Request Form for a Transcript of Records on your computer. Fill in all your completed courses, save the document, and email it as an attachment to transcript-incoming(at)uni-potsdam.de!

You should ask the instructor of every course you take for a “Schein” at the end of the semester. A “Leistungsnachweis” is a graded course completion certificate; a “Teilnahmeschein” is an ungraded course completion certificate. The original “Schein” must be submitted to the International Relations Office, Program Student Division (room 0.35), undergraduate assistants' office (room 0.41) or to the Secretariat (room 0.42).

Once your Transcript of Records is ready, we will send you an email. You can then pick up the document during office hours at the International Relations Office, Program Students Division or undergraduate assistants' office. Should you no longer be in Potsdam, the Transcript of Records can be sent to you by mail.

Deregistration at the University

You’ll leave the University of Potsdam soon. Therefore your exmatriculation (deregistration at the University of Potsdam) will automatically become effective at the end of the semester. On the day after your exmatriculation, your student ID card (PUCK) will become invalid, and you are no longer allowed to use the semester ticket. You are still able to submit course work (i.e. papers) after you have been exmatriculated.

The University of Potsdam uses the term “Leistungspunkte” (LP), which equals ECTS credits (LP = ECTS). ECTS is based on the following points:

  • 60 credits or points for an academic year,
  • 30 credits or points for a semester and
  • 20 credits or points for a trimester.

Credit can only be given if all requirements, including the necessary exams, have been fulfilled. However, this does not preclude exceptional regulations.

If you are not able to find information on ECTS credits in the (Annotated) Course Catalog or on the internet pages of the institute/department/faculty, please contact your departmental Erasmus coordinator or the course instructor. The coordinators can also assist you in assembling your individual course schedule (Learning Agreement ), and they can offer help with general academic questions.

At the end of your studies at the University of Potsdam, you will have a collection of course completion certificates (Leistungsschein) for all courses. Each certificate lists the number of ECTS credits for the course. Upon submission of these course completion certificates to the International Office you can receive a Transcript of Records.
