Research Interests

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • AAC service delivery, assessment and diagnostics with a special focus on “feature matching”
  • Critical skills of AAC users: motor planning, imitation skills, symbolic skills, visual representation, communication functions
  • AAC for early communicators, unaided and low-tech AAC
  • Critical aspects of AAC technologies: iconicity, vocabulary selection, organization and navigation of AAC interfaces
  • Critical elements of AAC instruction: modeling of language and communication, video-based supports
