For some pathway engineering projects, the time-dependent regulation of protein production is essential. To tackle this, the toolkit harbors a chemically and also a red light-regulated nuclease-deficient dCas9, which is fused to transcriptional activator or repressor domains. This synthetic transcription factor can be targeted to the desired genes to regulate the expression levels.
