The summer school will take place from June 27th to June 30th 2018 in the unique historical setting of the University of Potsdam. The main aim is to bring together junior and senior researchers in the field of historical syntax in Germanic languages.
This year’s summer school will start with a two-day course on the structure of Yiddish by Neil G. Jacobs. Insights in this language that is labelled a Germanic language, but shows influences from Semitic, Slavic and Romance languages will provide the participants with valuable knowledge on the influence of language contact on grammatical features and its limits.
The second part of the summer school will be a combination of talks given by experts in the field and by advanced Master and PhD students working on historical syntax of (a) Germanic language/s. This structure allows feedback on the individual research for the junior researchers from both the experts and from the fellow Masters and PhD candidates.
