Autumn School for curious students – this October in Germany!

Who should apply?

The GATEWAY.UP Autumn School is designed for talented international undergraduate students and recent Bachelor's graduates who are planning the next step in their academic journey and are considering pursuing a Master's degree at the University of Potsdam. 

As part of the GATEWAY.UP initiative, applicants from Argentina, India, Namibia, and the United States will receive priority consideration during the selection process. Outstanding applicants from all other countries are also warmly encouraged to apply.

What we offer!

During this immersive one-week, participants explore our four participating Master's programmes, experience the internationally renowned research environment of the Potsdam Science Region, and gain first-hand insights into studying, conducting research, and living in Germany. Through lectures, hands-on workshops, laboratory visits, excursions, and interactions with researchers and current students, participants can discover which programme best matches their academic interests and career goals.

The GATEWAY.UP Autumn School is more than just a one-week academic experience - it is the first step towards a Master's degree at the University of Potsdam. Our goal is to support outstanding international students in making an informed study decision, building valuable academic networks, and preparing a successful application for one of our participating Master's programmes.

MSc Climate, Earth, Water, Sustainability

This research-oriented programme provides students with interdisciplinary expertise at the interface of climate, earth system, and sustainability research, covering climate systems, land–ocean–atmosphere interactions, and climate-related risks and extreme events. It combines advanced scientific modelling and data-driven methods with economic, political, and societal perspectives to equip graduates to contribute to transformation and sustainability research.

MSc Remote Sensing, geoInformation and Visualization

This methodology-focused programme addresses advanced digital technologies, with a focus on satellite- and sensor-based Earth observation, geodata analysis, AI-supported evaluation methods, and big data techniques. These skills are essential in areas such as climate monitoring, environmental management, disaster prevention, agriculture/urban and infrastructure planning. The programme links data-driven innovations directly to socially relevant applications.

MSc Geosciences

The programme offers a comprehensive Earth system perspective, spanning spatial scales from microscopic processes to global Earth system dynamics and temporal scales from geological history to future environmental change. Through state-of-the-art analytical, observational, and computational methods it provides students with a solid foundation in analysing natural hazards, resource formation and subsurface utilisation.

MSc Ecology, Evolution and Conservation

In this master's degree program, you will learn about the state of the art in the various specialized fields of ecology, evolutionary research and scientific nature conservation. The program is research-oriented and concentrates on a broad spectrum of modern research methods, with a supplementary focus on application aspects.

The GATEWAY.UP project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The DAAD is the implementing funding organisation.
