Niels Aka studied economics and political science in Durham, UK, and received his M.Sc. in economics from the University of Regensburg. In 2020 he completed his dissertation at the Free University of Berlin on model uncertainty in economic forecasts and political conclusions derived from economic time series analysis.
He is a researcher at DIW Berlin's Forecasting and Economic Policy Department, where he currently develops leading macroeconomic indicators. These indicators are extracted from large text corpora, such as newspapers, by means of sentiment analysis. He has previously gained experience in business cycle forecasting at Germany's bi-annual Gemeinschaftsdiagnose and during a research stay at the European Central Bank
In the winter semester 2020/21, Niels will hold the exercise for the lecture "Time Series Econometrics" at the University of Potsdam.
