Groundwater recharge (GW)

The groundwater recharge estimation is fundamental for the sustainable use of groundwater resources. The Cosmic-Ray Neutron Sensing (CRNS) provides a unique approach to estimate soil moisture dynamics and snow water equivalent at field scale.

The groundwater-project develops a stand-alone method for groundwater recharge estimation at field scale (and larger) based on CRNS.

The overall aim is to assess the role of the soil moisture profiles and the quality of the CRNS signal to provide root-zone soil moisture and the understanding of liquid/snow effects on the CRNS signal and the estimation of the snow water equivalent.
