Natural hazards such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, and multi hazard events heavily affect human societies and call for better mitigation strategies. Because of the severity of such events it is of high importance if in the wake of changing hydro-climatological, geo-physical and socio-economic system conditions the magnitude, frequency and impact of certain types of natural hazards change as well. Therefore methods are needed for hazard and risk quantification accounting for transient nature of hazards and risks in response to changing natural and anthropogenic altered systems. The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers from natural sciences (e.g. hydrology, meteorology, geomorphology, hydraulics, environmental science, seismology, geography), risk research, nonlinear systems dynamics, and applied mathematics to discuss new insights and developments about Data Mining, Changing Systems, Multi-hazard events and Linking Hazard and Vulnerabilities under instable environmental conditions.
The conference will take place on 4 – 5 October 2018 at the University of Potsdam, Campus Griebnitzsee, Building 6.
We are happy to announce four invited keynote speeches:
1) Prof. Dr. Matthias Holschneider (University of Potsdam, Institute of Mathematics): Data Science
2) Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) Potsdam): Changing Systems
3) Prof. Dr. Jakob Rhyner (United Nations University, Institute for Environment and Human Security): Cascade and Multi-Hazard
4) Prof. Dr. Jeroen Aerts (VU Amsterdam, Institute for Environmental Studies): Linking Hazard and Vulnerability
