Terror has become part of our daily lives. Several attacks proved that threats can manifest themselves in acts of horror. We have to deal with the reality that security is, maybe more than ever, risk induced. How do intelligence services deal with our contemporary security landscape? How do they deal with threats of terror? What are their perspectives for the future? What are the parallels between counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency? What can we learn from historical cases?
These questions will be dealt with at the conference “Terrorism – Counter insurgency and the role of intelligence services”. Heiko Brendel, lecturer at the Chair of War Studies, speaks on counter-insurgency in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The conference is organized by the Belgian Intelligence Studies Centre (BISC) and the Institute for International Research on Criminal Policy (IRCP). It takes place at 1st December 2017 from 08:30 to 18:00 in Brussels.
