The Center for Economic Policy Analysis (CEPA) is a collaboration of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Potsdam and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW). Founded in 2018, its main goal is to foster the cooperation of the institutions regarding their activities in economic research and teaching as well as to provide a stimulating environment for junior researchers.
This is achieved through intensive joint efforts in research as well as closer ties in the education of Bachelor, Master and PhD students. CEPA will cooperate with the Graduate Center at the DIW and the Berlin Doctoral Program in Economics and Management Science (BDPEMS) and also host own workshops and policy events. Moreover, every year a selected number of students at the undergraduate and graduate level from the University of Potsdam are given the chance to do an internship at the DIW to gain crucial skills in economic policy analysis and potentially to pave their way towards PhD studies and an academic career. For more information, see CEPA Internship Program.
Regarding the research agenda, CEPA puts its main focus on policy-relevant economic research in a broad range of topics. This includes inter alia topics related to labour markets, inequality, human behaviour, economic growth and sustainability. One key goal is not only to discuss instruments of economic policy to address these issues but also to give guidance for effective policy design based on rigorous theory and sound empirical evidence.
To improve the visibility of its members’ research output, foster academic exchange, and increase the impact of research on policy-making CEPA launched its own Discussion Paper Series.
