ALADDIN – Research Group For The Acquisition of Language And Developmental Disorder Norms

Photo: Roswitha Pott

The psycholinguistic research conducted at the ALADDIN Lab focuses on how children develop receptive and expressive language skills, starting from the first years of life until these skills are consolidated in grown-up children, adolescents and adults.

We conduct experimental studies where typically-developing groups are compared to those of children and adolescents affected by developmental disorders (for example, Specific Language Impairment and Autistic Spectrum Disorders). We hope that the results of our research can be useful to understand the interaction of language with other cognitive abilities and so to develop new tools to promote early assessment and rehabilitation of language disorders.

Aladdin is a member of LACA (Language Abilities in Children with Autism) is a network funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) for three years (2017-2020), and led by Prof. Jeannette Schaeffer from the University of Amsterdam. The network contains twelve European research labs investigating the nature and the development of language (in)abilities in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder across languages.
