The ZIM offers a central data backup solution for servers for members of the University of Potsdam.

The offer includes backup and restore of data on the data storage for servers provided and hosted by ZIM.

Usage information

When applying (see box below), you must name a project leader. Furthermore, we require the name of a person responsible for technical matters. Please send the completed application to zim-serviceuni-potsdamde.

The provisioning time is usually 3 working days and depends on the complexity of the desired backup solution.

AIBM Spectrum Protect Client is required for use. You can obtain this on the page from the provider IBM (https://public.dhe.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance/client/v8r1/)

7 versions of the backup are created. Deleted versions of backups are kept for 90 days until final removal.

Depending on the agreement, backups are made daily or weekly to the connected tape library. You receive automated logs of these processes for independent review. 

The backup of a data volume of up to 10 terabytes (TB) is free of charge.

The ZIM is currently working on a cost model for larger data volumes. If you need more storage volume, please contact us. We will endeavour to find a solution for your request.
