„Sara Sampson“ (1789): Zu einer Adaptation von G. E. Lessings bürgerlichem Trauerspiel in der russischen Literatur

“Sara Sampson” represents among the Lessing translations in the Russian literature of the 18th century a certain special case. In comparison with the other translations of that time, this adaptation shows quite probably the most serious modifications with regard to the original. On the one hand, it depicts an almost drastic turn back to the counter-pattern of the domestic drama, the Saxon comedy of types, and, on the other hand, a trivialised variant of the domestic drama, comparable to the sentimental play of Kotzebue.
