Our Mission

Our goal is to make possible a pleasant stay for the guests, as well as their families, of the Potsdam Scientific Facility. The International Meeting Center (IBZ) exists with the support of the federal governenment, the state of Brandenburg, as well as with support from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation on the campus of the University of Applied Sciences of Potsdam.

The University of Potsdam, the University of Applied Sciences of Potsdam, and the Academy for Film and Television make up three modern Academies. As predecessor of the University, the State Academy, later called the Pedagogic Academy, was founded in 1948. The founding of the oldest German Film Academy was followed by the foundation of the German Academy for Film Art in Potsdam-Babelsberg in 1954.

There are several more note-worthy research facilities in the Scientific Park "Albert Einstein" on the Telegrafenberg (Research Area since 1874). The Institute of the Max-Planck-Society in Golm and the Research Community of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz continue Potsdam“s tradition of excellence in research.

With its academies and research facilites, Potsdam is again developing into a nationally and internationally important scientific city. This development is further increased by the activities of foreign guest scientists in research projects, in teaching and being taught.

In order to make your stay a pleasant one, this facility was constructed. Its first foundation stone was laid on June 2, 1998. The construction party was held on September 11, 1998. On November 1, 1999, the first guests were able to move into the apartments of the International Meeting Center. During the Grand Opening on January 28, 2000, the General Secretary of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Dr. Heinrich Pfeiffer, turned over the responsibility of the facility to the State of Brandenburg.
