University of Calgary &
Linguistics
The University of
Calgary (U of
C) is the home of the
Language
Research Centre
(LRC). The LRC's mission is to develop and
distribute leading-edge strategies for enhancing second language
education and thus create a more articulate, literate, multicultural
and internationally effective citizenry. The LRC has three strands of
research, namely (1) best practices in second language curriculum
design, (2) technology enhanced language learning, and (3)
psycholinguistic investigation. The psycholinguistics laboratory
is equipped with infrared eye-tracking equipment, EEG facilities
for ERP experiments, and extensive sound equipment for acoustic
analysis. Being a collaborative enterprise, the LRC draws on the
expertise of faculty members in numerous language departments
as well as Linguistics and Psychology.

University of Potsdam & Linguistics
The University of Potsdam (UP) was founded in 1991. Within 10
years, the Department of Linguistics of the university has established
itself as a major center in Germany for linguistic research with an
explicitly cognitive orientation. This focus is particularly exhibited in
the programs of the institute (e.g. the program in speech
pathology),
its major role in the workings of the Center for Cognitive Studies,
and in the research projects and publications of its faculty and
research staff. With its "state-of-the-art" facilities for conducting
psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic research (with e.g. capacities for
doing ERPs), the University of Potsdam offers ideal facilities for the
MAP.
