The University of Potsdam has developed a combined transfer system with an internal transfer center and a university-owned enterprise. Together they offer extensive services through all stages of the innovation process.
The transfer center of the University of Potsdam, UP Transfer, is the main contact point for academics, businesses, and institutions in the transfer of knowledge and technology. As an administrative department within the presidential office, UP Transfer provides information on the research areas' business-relevant competences and establishes contacts between scholarship and practical applications. Furthermore, the department is responsible for the registration and application of property rights. UP Transfer supports the implementation of research results into marketable products, processes, and services in the precompetitive phase and creates direct access to application-oriented research. The university's cooperation potentials are presented at domestic and international trade fairs.

"The University of Potsdam's transfer system
rigorously follows market needs, and its
impulses make teaching and research attractive.
The transfer managers work as initiators and catalysts and support
entrepreneurs and researchers on their way from idea to innovation." “

The UP Transfer Society for Knowledge and Technology Transfer GmbH at the University of Potsdam is a private, nonprofit subsidiary of the university and serves as a bridge between scholarship and the market. Under the auspices of the Society, research and development projects as well as special continuing education programs and programs of study are implemented. As the University's partner, the UP Transfer GmbH cooperates predominantly with small and mid-sized businesses in the capital region Berlin-Brandenburg. Partners and customers also include commercial enterprises, institutions, and research facilities in Germany and abroad. By implementing funded projects and research assignments, UP Transfer GmbH assumes an important role in assisting young scholars. It helps to secure the work force and continues to develop technology and service-oriented projects after their founding. In this manner, stimuli from teaching and research are used purposefully for regional development, the newest research results are made available to the general public, and highly qualified skilled workers are kept in the region.
The University of Potsdam offers study programs for acquiring higher qualifications in the area of executive education. It connects solid scientific approaches with concrete practical demands. The programs are quality-oriented to a high degree and are especially responsive to students' needs. These study programs are rigorously geared toward professional and practical demands and have thus established a very successful profile.
