Potsdam Graduate School - Central Scientific Institution for Ph.D. Students

When you want to obtain a Ph.D. degree at the University of Potsdam, you may use the cross-disciplinary training and support program at the Potsdam Graduate School. It was especially set up for Ph.D. students consistently in line with international quality standards. Individual Ph.D. students and more than twenty Ph.D. programs of various subjects andfaculties are united at this graduate school under one roof. As a liaison body within the research network “pearls” it establishes important contacts to extramural research institutions.

The Potsdam Graduate School stands for excellent doctoral conditions and an attractive research and funding environment for young scholars. Written agreements between doctoral students and supervisors define rights and obligations within a dissertation project. This provides reliability for both sides.

The Potsdam Graduate School offers many seminar programs for additional interdisciplinary qualification, particularly for key competencies. Various fullyear programs support doctoral students to prepare efficiently for their professional future. The Teaching Professionals Program qualifies them for teaching tasks as committed and motivating teachers. The Entrepreneurial Postgraduate Education Program, EPE, prepares young scientists for career alternatives like entrepreneurial self-employment and establishing a business.

"Doctoral students are the driving force of academic and non-academic research. Their scientific creativity and assertiveness will determine the future of teaching and research at the University of Potsdam."

Dr. Heike Küchmeister
Director of the Potsdam Graduate School

For the integration of young scholars into the scientific community, the Potsdam Graduate School provides financial support through travel and publication allowances. Also within the Potsdam Graduate School, Ph.D. students benefit from interdisciplinary exchange as well as national and international networking.
