I am happy to introduce to you the University of Potsdam and to acquaint you with our goals and our visions. In the summer of 2008 our university passed a development plan that outlines where we will be focusing our energy in the coming years. Politicians and the public need to know how the research community here in Potsdam wants to position itself, what it can do to improve teaching, and which paths the University of Potsdam will take in the areas of technology and knowledge transfer. As an institution, the University of Potsdam is situated between tradition and modernity. Dynamic and ambitious, it has grown and continues to grow as a center for science and research that can be measured to the highest international standards. The following pages will offer you information and a look into our daily lives. We want to share our excitement and win you over for the world of science that is ours. If we succeed in building a bridge to our friends and supporters as well as winning new business and community partners, we will have accomplished an important goal.
