Supporting young and talented people so that they can stay focused on their studies: this is the idea behind the Germany Scholarship, which was created in the summer of 2010 by the federal government. The scholarships encourage young people, regardless of their background, to take up their studies and complete them successfully. The aim of the initiative is also to develop a new scholarship culture in Germany. Talented students receive support and simultaneously become visible as potential experts or managers for companies, foundations, and other organizations.
Companies, foundations, and private persons pay € 150 each month for at least one year to fund a Germany Scholarship. The federal government matches this donation with € 150 each month. This amounts to € 3,600 per scholarship and per year of university study.
The University of Potsdam wants to use the Germany Scholarship to support students who have outstanding grades (whether at school or university) and are in the standard period of study. International students, or students with special biographical challenges, can also receive support through a Germany Scholarship.
