Andreas Schmitz, PD Dr.

Projektbeschreibung

Andreas Schmitz is currently working on the theoretical analysis of the nation-state as field (with Daniel Witte, Bonn), on the empirical construction of the global field of power, and on the integration of field analysis and network analysis on a global scale (with Heiko Heiberger, Bremen). The former two projects criticize Bourdieu’s too narrow conception of the field of power and derive a more consistent, relational conceptualization on a theoretical level, eventually leading to the global field of power as a logical consequence of relational reasoning. The latter project addresses the methodological challenges of empirically constructing fields and field relations beyond the analytical limitations of the nation-state, that is (a) between different (trans)-national fields and (b) across different “levels of emergence”.
