Potsdam Spring Program
Program
The program covers 16 weeks with a minimum of 16 lessons per week. You will be taught independently from the regular students of the University of Potsdam, i.e. not integrated in regular university courses. You have the opportunity to sign up for one regular UP-course. That is a good opportunity to meet German students. Take a look at the lectures offered this semester. There are more detailed descriptions for the individual subjects on the internet sites of the different faculties. (Some courses are even held in English.)
At the beginning of the program you are going to take a placement test. According to your result you will be grouped into the appropriate language course. The assessment is based on German standards and will be adapted to UC standards at the end of the program.
The courses you have to take and how many lessons there will be each week:
| - 1 skills development course (Reading/Writing/Speaking/Listening) | 90 minutes each | 4 lessons |
| - 1 grammar course according to the result of your placement test | 90 minutes each | 2 lessons |
| - 1 phonetics course | 90 minutes each | 2 lessons |
| - 2 electives out of the 4 offered | 90 minutes each | 6 lessons |
| - 1 project out of the 3 offered | 90 minutes each | 2 lessons 16 lessons per week |
Course Requisitions
Minimal participation in a German university course includes regular attendance, preparing for the lessons (research + reading), taking part in discussions, and usually a short oral report prepared individually by every student or by small groups. Sometimes, the course subjects require extra lessons or excursions, which, although maybe exceeding the normal 90 minutes per week, belong to the regular class and attendance is mandatory. Instructors/Professors will schedule midterm exams and final exams as part of their course requirements and/or demand a research paper on individual subjects.
Choosing Your Courses
You will be assigned to the different language and grammar courses according to the results of your placement test.
- On our coUP-Portal you will find the overview of the offered courses with timetable.
